In 2018, the Khadi and Village
Industries Commission (KVIC), India's nodal agency regulating Khadi certification, filed a court case against Fabindia Overseas Pvt. Ltd in the Bombay High Court seeking damages of Rs 525 crore for allegedly selling factory-made cotton garments labeled as 'Khadi'.

The KVIC Act defines authentic khadi as "any cloth woven on handlooms in India from cotton, silk or woollen yarn hand-spun in India or from a mixture of any two or all of such yarns."

Furthermore, it states, "No
textile shall be sold or otherwise traded by any person, or certified Khadi institution, as 'Khadi products', in any form or manner, without it bearing a 'Khadi Mark' tag or label issued by KVIC."

While our fabric fulfils the first
clause, we fall short in the second. Our clothes are hand-woven on a handloom
from hand-spun cotton.

However, we do not currently have the workforce infrastructure or finances required to obtain a Khadi certification.
